PC running slowly? – Give it a service!
If your PC is running slowly don’t be tempted to throw it out in favour of a faster model. In the current economic climate it is not so easy to find a few hundred pounds for a new computer. It is more cost effective to give your PC a makeover and have it running smoothly again.

What causes computer slowdowns?
The latest anti-virus software can really eat up processing power and slow it down. Other speed killers include installing the latest version of your software, as each version is usually more power hungry, and the installation of background programs which appear as tiny icons next to the clock.
So what can be done?
Upgrade the memory
If your computer is running with less than 512 Mb of memory it will not cope well with the demands of today’s programs. Upgrading your memory will help it to cope better with multiple programs or applications being open at the same time. It can help your applications to open faster, your computer to start up and shut down faster and make your internet experience more enjoyable.
Reinstall the Operating System
This takes the computer back to factory settings wiping all of the accumulated programs and viruses and putting everything back in the correct way. Your data needs to be backed up as part of this process and reinstalled afterwards.
Other system tweaks
There are a number of other optimisation tweaks which, when combined, can help improve the performance of the computer. So, with a little time and TLC you could breathe new life into your computer.
