Amazon Helping You Get The Look

Now, here is an unusual thing. There is a free book available on the Amazon UK website. Its title is The Ultimate Guide to Using Your Personal Robot Stylist.

Those who rush to order a copy may act prematurely, because all may not be as it seems.

Bizarrely, this is a guise to using a device that is not yet available within these shores.

The freebie is a wheeze to generate advance interest in Amazon’s own Echo Look.

I am curious to see whether this new member of the Echo family will take off when it does finally arrive.

It is designed to support fashion choices.

It has a depth sensitive, five megapixel camera set up to help users with those difficult questions like ‘how do I look in this?, which outfit shall I wear tonight?’ and ‘shall I take this back tomorrow?’ Having donned an ensemble, a quick shout to Alexa through the Look will either trigger a still, or even better, a short video clip whilst the outfit is given a full twirl.

These can be shared with friends.

More alarmingly, intelligent software, informed by experts, is on hand to weigh up the results and position the resulting images on a ‘style scale.’

Amazon does not declare this, but it is a good bet that it intends to store up a fashion preferences profile on each user of the new look and then start pumping suggested purchases from its own stocks in line with what its algorithms learn about their likes and dislikes.

The ‘Big Brother’ world imagined by George Orwell imposed camera everywhere. Amazon is encouraged folk to take them voluntarily.
